is a project that aims to connect high school students with current topics in contemporary science and with Slovak scientists-biologists who are currently engaged in research in Slovakia or abroad.
Biology is one of the fastest growing scientific fields, and at the same time it is a field in which new discoveries have a major impact on human life in the present and near future.
Whether it is coping with climate change, the spreading resistance of pathogens to commonly used drugs, or the possibilities of genetic engineering or artificial intelligence, new knowledge is coming in so fast that it is impossible to incorporate it into educational programmes and secondary school textbooks in a timely manner.
In the current project, we aim to bridge this gap by creating a collection of educational materials that are topically relevant, attractive, and will lead students to actively participate in their own learning.
We will create and provide free of charge to schools educational materials that
are directly suitable for use in a biology class in an ordinary Slovak secondary school classroom,
they are related to the normal high school curriculum,
enable students to develop the skills necessary for further study of natural sciences.
The educational materials will focus on different areas of biology, with an emphasis on current research by Slovak scientists, and will be accompanied by methodological guidelines and sample solutions.
Since we want the educational materials to meet the needs of students and teachers and to suit the conditions of a typical classroom, we invite biology teachers from practice to be involved in their development right from the start of the project.
We organise workshops for teachers, during which they are able to try out the newly created materials, comment on them and discuss their use in their specific situation.
If you are interested in taking part in the workshops and receiving the new teaching materials for your biology lessons, please sign up for a workshop HERE.
The activity is co-funded by the European Union in the Impact Lab program of the Pontis Foundation.
