Learning by experience

Students visited the department and participated in three activities:

1. They attended a talk on forensic genetics.

2. They performed a lab activity using restriction analysis to differentiate among suspects.

3. They spoke with PhD students to discuss what it means to be a scientist and what their lives are like.

At our first workshop, which took place on 4th July in the premises of the Centrum ekovýchovy na Kamzíku in Bratislava, we presented new educational materials for biology lessons for secondary schools. We created the materials so that students work independently, practice reading comprehension, data collection and analysis and, most importantly, feel the joy of discovery. At the same time, our materials incorporate material that is commonly taught in high school biology classes.

In a research paper, they used our game as one of two case studies focused on teacher education that helps bridge the gap between research, higher education, and regular schools.
